Of all the things I thought I was going to be growing up, a published author was not one of them, but here we are. After a repeated joke at work and tons of laughter at the thought at sending a kids picture book through the Department of Defense (DoD)'s Office of PrePublication made me realize this was a good project to do.
After about 6 months of script writing and revisions while working a full time job. Another 8 months of working with one of the best illustrators out there. Finally another 4 months of trying to find an agent only to realize If You Give An Officer a Spreadsheet does not fit within the nice neat little box of the publishing world's view of a picture book. To be honest it was a little bit disheartening but there was but one and only course of action after all that work - go forward and take the proverbial hill, self publishing. Who needs the traditional publishing world now anyways?
Now I have the first finished copy in my hands, it is a weird feeling to have something that took over a year and a half worth of work to be finally done. I hope you can appreciate the statement from a self proclaimed perfectionist, it is good enough to be done. I hope you enjoy If You Give An Officer a Spreadsheet and it brings your tons of laughter and facepalms.
